ACTION ALERT: Tell Congress to Support the Darwin Day Resolution!

Jan. 12, 2017

Rep. Himes introduces Darwin Day Resolution in the US House.

Dear Friend,

As the new session of Congress begins, it’s easy to feel discouraged by the recent gains of the Religious Right. But humanists just like you still have a say in what bills become law, which is why we need your help.

Thanks to the hard work of the AHA’s lobbying team, H. Res. 44, the Darwin Day Resolution, has been introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives for the sixth time since 2011. We are proud to work with Representative Jim Himes (D-CT) again to introduce the resolution, which:

  • States that evolution “provides humanity with a logical and intellectually compelling explanation for the diversity of life on Earth.”
  • Demands that the “advancement of science be protected from those unconcerned with the adverse impacts of global warming and climate change.”
  • Confirms that the “teaching of creationism in some public schools compromises the scientific and academic integrity of the United States’ education systems.”

Show Congress that voters care about science by contacting your Representative today and asking him or her to co-sponsor the Darwin Day Resolution.

We’ve heard some scary rhetoric from the incoming administration about the validity of climate change and the role of science in American life. With your help, this pro-science resolution will remind Congress why it is so important that America remains a leader when it comes to scientific research, and why inaccurate rhetoric on topics like climate change and evolution have no place in public policy.

Your voice—and your support of science—matters. Can you take a moment to let your Representative know you want them to support the Darwin Day Resolution?

Thank you for standing up for evolution and science education!

Sincerely,
