Darwin’s Angels

Darwin’s angels will decend in Wageningen. How do carnivorous plants and tiger spiders attack their preys? On this subject the single American woman Mary Treat corresponded with Charles Darwin, the British inventor of the theory of evolution. Treat is one of special women in the 19th century who fought their way into the man-made scientific stronghold of science. She is one of the ten ‘angels’ central in Darwin Café 2019 in Wageningen, tuesday evening 12 February from 8.30 pm in Café Rad van Wageningen.
Botanical philosopher Norbert Peeters from Leiden, co-author and compiler of the recently released book Darwins engelen, gives a presentation about the learned women around Darwin in Dutch.
Darwin Café is organized for the third year in a row by biologist newspaper Bionieuws, Wageningen University magazine Resource and Stadsbrouwerij Wageningen.
