The Humanists of Utah invite you to attend our 10th Annual Darwin Day Celebration from 5:30 – 9:00 p.m. at the Officer’s Club at the University of Utah (150 South Fort Douglas Blvd.) on Saturday, February 11, 2017.
We are thrilled to be celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the first Darwin Day celebration in Utah, and we hope you will join us for a fabulous Celebration of Science this evening!
During the open reception from 5:30 – 6:30, guests will be invited to enjoy hors d’oeuvres and appetizers while perusing tables set up by local scientific-minded groups and organizations, who will be joining us to give everyone more information about their groups, science, technology, and climate change. Groups include the Atheists of Utah, Clark Planetarium, Tracey Aviary, and more!
The Humanists of Utah will be selling & providing EvolveFish merchandise and other humanistic & scientific books, jewelry, stickers, as well as free literature and opportunities to sign up to learn more about how to become a member, and the many great events we are planning in the coming year.
From 6:30 – 8:15 p.m., we will hear from our Board President and a panel of local scientists, including Alan Rogers, Court Strong, Paul Ricketts, and others present information related to their scientific studies and research in the past 10 years, ideas and projections for the coming 10 years, and ways the public can get involved in promoting scientific literacy now and for decades to come!
At about 8:15 p.m., we will cut our ceremonial Darwin Day Cake and sing Happy Birthday to this inspirational advocate for scientific study and learning who lived from 1809 – 1882 and continues to inspire scientists in all fields today.
Donations are not required, but will be gratefully accepted in order to continue providing free & open events for many years to come.
Please spread the word! This event is free & open to the public, as are all events with the Humanists of Utah, a local 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded 25 years ago to promote joyful living, rational thinking, and responsible behavior!
