Please RSVP at the link below. \nThe Evolution of Goodness\, Justice and Empathy \nWe humans often display acts of kindness and generosity. As it turns out\, nonhumans are also good to one another\, sacrificing to help those around them.  But why?  Why do both humans and animals show such altruistic\, self-sacrificial behavior? Scientists and philosophers have long pondered these questions.  In a fast-moving\, action packed talk\, I will bring us up to date on what we know and what we don’t know about the roots of goodness by focusing on both the fascinating history of this subject\, which includes true stories that are the stuff of movies\, and the latest\, cutting edge research in the field of evolution and behavior\, including my own work on altruism. \nDr. Dugatkin is a Professor and Distinguished University Scholar in the Department of Biology at The University of Louisville. His main area of research interest is the evolution of social behavior. His lab studies the evolution of cooperation\, the evolution of aggression\, the interaction between genetic and cultural evolution\, the evolution of antibiotic resistance\, and the evolution of risk-taking behavior. Dr. Dugaktin has spoken at over 125 universities\, written 150 articles on evolution and behavior\, and authored two widely-used textbooks including: Principles of Animal Behavior and Evolution. \nThe Arizona State University Center for Evolution & Medicine is a university-wide Presidential Initiative whose mission is to improve human health by establishing evolutionary biology as an essential basic science for medicine\, worldwide. The Center brings leading scientists to ASU to join existing faculty in research that demonstrates the power of evolutionary biology to address problems in medicine and public health. The new courses and degrees they create will begin to meet the growing demand for such experiences\, and will educate a generation of future researchers and health professionals. DESCRIPTION:Venerdì 12 Febbraio l’Associazione Polyxena organizza “Scritto nelle ossa – La scienza racconta il passato di Castiglione”\, presso la sala convegni del Castello di Conversano (secondo piano del Polo Museale) alle ore 16:00.\nL’evento\, aperto a tutti\, presenterà i risultati scaturiti dalle indagini scientifiche\, antropologiche e paleo-patologiche compiute finora dal Laboratorio di Antropologia dell’Università di Bari\, per svelare i misteri degli ultimi abitanti di Torre di Castiglione.\nGli straordinari reperti ossei\, ritrovati in località Torre di Castiglione durante le campagne di scavo condotte alla fine degli anni ’90\, sono riferibili all’ultima presenza in quello che\, probabilmente\, è stato il primo nucleo abitativo del territorio conversanese\, abbandonato alla fine del 1400.\nL’evento vuole essere anche l’occasione per presentare quelle metodologie in grado di fornirci un quadro della vita del passato. Un salto nel tempo\, in grado di fare luce sulle attività quotidiane dei nostri antenati\, per fornire nuove informazioni utili a comprendere le vicende storiche di questo angolo di Puglia.\nA cavallo fra vicende storiche e divulgazione scientifica\, “Scritto nelle ossa” intende incuriosire i cittadini e mettere in allenamento il pensiero scientifico\, raccontando anche gli strumenti innovativi utili per queste indagini\, come la ricostruzione 3D del volto del Signore di Castiglione\, e per discutere le prospettive di ricerca in merito alle malattie del passato.\nLe indagini scientifiche dell’antico abitato di Castiglione possono così narrarci come\, nel tempo\, si sia formata l’identità di un territorio\, nel contesto del sud est barese\, dove tanto importante è il connubio fra natura e cultura.\nNello specifico\, il programma sarà così articolato:\n– Introduzione (APS Polyxena)\n– “Come” si presentano le ossa? Le tombe della Chiesa dell’Annunziata (Dott.ssa Francesca Baldassarre)\n– “Perché” si studiano le ossa? Metodologie di studio (Dott.ssa Emanuela Bertini)\n– Da “dove” vengono? Distanze biologiche\, luoghi d’origine e migrazioni (Fabrizia Andriani)\n– “Cosa” è scritto nelle ossa? Biologia e patocenosi (Prof. Sandro Sublimi Saponetti\, Dott.ssa Valentina Argeri)\n– A “chi” appartengono le ossa? DESCRIPTION:In occasione dei festeggiamenti che ogni anno vengono organizzati a livello mondiale per ricordare la data di nascita di Charles Darwin (12 febbraio 1809)\, l’Ente Parco del Beigua ed il Museo Civico di Storia Naturale “G. Doria” di Genova\, in collaborazione con il DISTAV – Università degli Studi di Genova e con ADM – Associazione Didattica Museale\, propongono due appuntamenti per approfondire il curioso rapporto che il grande scienziato inglese ha avuto con la paleontologia e per raccontare particolari emergenze paleontologiche che caratterizzano il Geoparco Globale del Beigua\, recentemente riconosciuto come sito UNESCO. \nVenerdì 12 febbraio 2016 dalle ore 15:30 alle ore 17:30 presso il Museo Civico di Storia Naturale “G. Doria” Conferenza “Darwin paleontologo e le filliti fossili del Geoparco UNESCO del Beigua”. Introdurrà Giuliano Doria\, direttore del Museo Civico di Storia Naturale.\nI contributi scientifici avranno inizio con l’intervento di Guido Chiesura\, massimo esperto in Italia delle opere darwiniane ed autore di diversi libri dedicati allo scienziato inglese; argomento della comunicazione saranno le osservazioni naturalistiche che Darwin fece durante il suo famoso viaggio intorno al mondo avendo spesso a che fare con reperti fossili e mettendo in discussione alcune teorie che avevano formulato i più famosi paleontologici di quel periodo.\nSeguiranno le presentazioni di Maria Cristina Bonci e Marco Firpo\, docenti presso il DISTAV dell’Università degli Studi di Genova – DISTAV\, che illustreranno gli eccezionali ritrovamenti di foglie fossili (“filliti”) provenienti dal deposito oligocenico di Stella Santa Giustina\, all’interno del Geoparco UNESCO del Beigua; un affascinante racconto delle caratteristiche dei luoghi in cui si sono formati e sedimentati questi straordinari reperti fossili\, ma anche delle avventurose ricerche pionieristiche condotte tra fine ‘800 e inizio ‘900 dai primi geologi liguri\, contaminati dalle rivoluzionarie teorie evoluzionistiche di Darwin che si stavano diffondendo tra scienziati e ricercatori.\nIn conclusione una sintesi sulle valenze del Parco del Beigua\, recentemente riconosciuto sito UNESCO nell’ambito della prestigiosa lista degli UNESCO Global Geopark\, presentate dal suo direttore Maurizio Burlando. \nDomenica 14 febbraio 2016 dalle ore 15 presso il Museo Civico di Storia Naturale “G. DESCRIPTION:Have you ever considered how it would be like to have a chat with King Alfred the Great? Would it be possible at all? The English language is a great example on how languages evolve. If you have ever tried to read old English poetry\, you definitely know that this is not a piece of cake. We have developed an experiment\, which is based on an innovative methodology\, to depict the historical language change\, called glossogeny. The event is organised under the auspices of Centre for Language Evolution Studies in Nicolaus Copernicus University and Polish Society for Human and Evolution Studies.\nThe organisers of the event are Monika Boruta\, Krzysztof Kaszyński\, and Marek Placiński.

Abbiamo voluto portare anche a Rivolimusica questo significativo appuntamento internazionale\, coinvolgendo in musica il liceo C. Darwin in collaborazione con l’ensemble Ossi Duri. \nEnsemble Ossi Duri\nRuben Bellavia\, Andrea Vigliocco\, Alessandro Armuschio\, Martin Bellavia\, Simone Bellavia\, Marco Tardito\, Giuseppe Virone\, Alberto Borio\, Riccardo Ternavasio\, Marta Massano e Paola Roman \nProgetto vincitore di Scene allo Sbando (progetto Compagnia di San Paolo 2015)\nDARWIN DAY a Rivoli in collaborazione con il Liceo C. Darwin di Rivoli \nL’ANIMA DELLA FOLLA\nIl primo esperimento al mondo di concerto interattivo\, in cui il pubblico è invitato a partecipare attivamente alla “regia” della performance musicale\, prendendo decisioni in tempo reale sul suo svolgimento\, sulla sua direzione artistica\, grazie all’utilizzo di tecnologie elaborate ad hoc.\nIl pubblico è assuefatto ad un ruolo passivo: le sue modalità di interazione con lo spettacolo dal vivo si limitano all’applauso o poco più; l’Anima della Folla vuole infrangere questa barriera e creare un flusso di informazioni fra le parti in gioco\, realizzare le condizioni per un “ascolto” reciproco che porti a fare del pubblico in sala il “conduttore” di quanto vi avviene\, unendo un sistema composto di access point\, web server e vari terminali video sul palco ai dispositivi portatili ormai largamente diffusi come smartphone\, tablet e computer.\nIn questo modo il Caso “darwiniano” produce la musica che sarà eseguita\, “selezionandone” i parametri.
