SUMMARY:Darwin Day at the Thomas A. Greene Geological Museum
DESCRIPTION:Darwin Day is a public outreach event celebrating the life and times of one of the most brilliant and influential Victorian naturalists\, Charles R. Darwin. Darwin was an avid geologist and biologist who most famously developed the theory of natural selection—one of the driving mechanisms behind biological evolution—published in his seminal work: On the Origin of Species. Today\, this theory forms the foundation for many of our natural sciences. Darwin Day is a national celebration of Darwin’s scientific legacy typically held on (or near) his birthday. \nThis event is free and open to guests of all ages. Many wonderful geological and biological specimens will be available to observe\, with volunteers on hand to explain their fascinating histories. Learning tables will focus on the natural history of Wisconsin and the contributions of the Thomas A. Greene to our understanding of local Wisconsin geology\, with many rare and beautiful samples on display in the Greene Geological Museum. Other activities will be available throughout the day\, including scientific lectures presented by UWM scientists and guest speakers\, a scavenger hunt\, coloring and crafts for young kids\, and a free planetarium show. See the activities list and schedule of events below for more information. \nWe can’t wait to see you there!

SUMMARY:Sacramento Darwin Day: A New Understanding of Human Origins
DESCRIPTION:Presenting the 27th fabulous year of the Darwin Day Birthday Gala\, Sacramento’s coolest\, most singular\, most go-to event of science and humanity\, brought to you by area science advocates\, civic groups and nerds on too much coffee. An in-person event at the MOSAC Science Mujseum\, marking “Chuck” Darwin’s 215rd birthday. Open to all. But tickets required. \nDarwin Day is a science-rush like no other\, a celebration of scientific inquiry honoring of the life and work of the great Charles Darwin (b. 12 February 1809)\, sponsored worldwide by community and educational groups. Not an AOF event\, to be honest\, but AOF helped found the local gala\, and continues to support it and commend it to all our friends in the Sacramento community of reason. Because science! And what’s science but reason in the trenches? \nSpeakers this year are the Drs. Brenna Henn and Tim Weaver. From the University of California in Davis\, they will present their ground-breaking research and findings on human origins in Africa.
