DESCRIPTION:The Brazilian Society of Genetics (SBG) has been encouraging since 2009\, the bicentenary year of Darwin’s birth\, that Brazilian universities and research institutes organize the Darwin Day event for the debate and dissemination of science in Brazil. In 2023\, SBG\, through its eastern regional office\, will promote Darwin Day in the state of Espírito Santo\, with the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES) responsible for carrying it out. The event will be held at the UFES campus located in the city of São Mateus/ES on February 9th and 10th. There will be several lectures\, science at the bar\, and debate about teaching evolution. Come join!

DESCRIPTION:Our keynote speaker this year is Dr. Katie Hinde from Arizona State University who will be talking about “Mother’s milk: Debunking myths\, exploring evolution and updating medicine. Please join us for our Evolution pop-up museum from 2-5 Thursday (Feb 9) and 10-3:30 Friday (Feb 10). Darwin’s birthday cake will be served at 3:30 on friday and the keynote speech will be at 4pm. All events will be in the Hill building on the NDSU campus.

DESCRIPTION:A trio of specialists on fossil fish from the “Age of Fishes” and on the origin of land vertebrates will talk about their research and answer questions about what we know about this fascinating interval of time. The panel is part of PRI’s Science in the Virtual Pub Series.\nPanelists:\nJames Boyle is Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Geology at the University of Buffalo. He has a special interest in placoderm (armored) fish of the Devonian period and in studying extinction using the fossil record.\nJennifer Olori is Associate Professor of Biological Sciences at SUNY Oswego. She studies the origin of the earliest tetrapods and other ancient land vertebrates.\nRobert Carr is emeritus professor in the Department of Natural Sciences and Geography at Concordia University Chicago. He specializes in the fossil record and evolution of Devonian fish.
