SUMMARY:Darwin Day at Bridgewater State University
DESCRIPTION:Please join the Center for the Advancement of STEM Education (CASE) and the Department of Biological Sciences at Bridgewater State University for our 4th Annual Darwin Day @ BSU on Friday\, February 15th\, from 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM. All events are free and open to the public. \nDuring the day we will have two BSU faculty lectures on evolutionary biology and anthropology. These will both be presented in the auditorium of the Dana Mohler-Faria Science and Math Building (DMF 120; 24 Park Ave.\, Bridgewater\, MA). At 8:00 AM\, Dr. M. Caitlin Fisher-Reid will give an informal presentation on what it means to be an evolutionary biologist\, and at 10:00 AM\, Dr. Ellen Ingmanson will give and informal presentation on what it means to be an evolutionary anthropologist. Both talks will be ~30-40 minutes\, and followed by audience Q&A. BSU undergraduate research students in the Fisher-Reid and Ingmanson labs will also be present to participate in the Q&A. \nThroughout the day (8:00 AM – 4:00 PM) we will have several natural history and evolution exhibits on display in DMF Atrium\, as well as undergraduate ecology and evolution-related research posters on display in the DMF 2nd floor Park Ave. hallway. \nOur keynote speaker this year is Dr. Daniel K. Riskin\, evolutionary biologist and science communicator\, who has most recently been working as the host of Animal Planet’s Monsters Inside Me and Discovery Channel Canada’s Daily Planet. He is also the author of Mother Nature is Trying to Kill You. Dr. Riskin will be speaking at 7:00 PM in Moakley Auditorium (100 Burrill Ave.\, Bridgewater MA)\, and his talk will be followed by Q&A. \nThis event is also sponsored by the Office of the Provost\, the Bartlett College of Science and Math\, and the Department of Canadian Studies.
