Congregation Har HaShem
3950 Baseline Road
Does evolution affect morality? One way to think through how we make stark moral choices is by considering what philosophers call “the trolley problem.” The trolley problem can be studied scientifically, and the results suggest that your solution to this problem is influenced by evolution.
Har HaShem member Matt Young will lead a discussion about the role that evolution plays in moral decision making. Rabbi Joshua Rose will briefly join in to offer some thoughts about how religion (as opposed to evolution) informs the moral choices we must make.
The event is free and open to the public. A vegetarian lunch will be provided, along with Matt Young’s homemade brownies!
Please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org by February 20.
Matt Young is coeditor of Why Intelligent Design Fails, coauthor of Why Evolution Works (and Creationism Fails), and author of 3 other books. He is Teaching Professor of Physics at the Colorado School of Mines. He will lead this discussion as part of Har HaShem’s participation in Evolution Weekend.
